ABOUT JAYAH

Jayah Arnett grew up in Carver Houses in East Harlem New York and is an Afro-Latina with Puerto Rican roots. Since her maternal great-grandma migrated to New York from Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico most of her family members have lived, and still live in public housing. She has been featured in publications such as the New York Times, Medium, and Cosmopolitan. In 2021 Jayah curated an exhibition with Photoville and Abrons Art Center. The exhibition featured “Community Matriarchs of NYCHA” from different public housing complexes in the Lower East Side. She hopes to continue to spread awareness and share the stories of residents of the past and present. You can find more about Jayah on her website.
